Depression is a disease that hurts the individual, the family, and the community. Suicides and violence are on the rise. It crosses all age, socio economic situations and genders. It is not like a broken arm, a rash, or some outward manifestation to alert us this person is not well.

Often the family or colleagues will chalk the withdrawn and dark behavior up to moodiness. As a society we have stigmatized depression. Yes it is a mental health disorder. THERE IS HELP-- but there needs to be greater awareness how to access help and to know what the options are.

People often self medicate with illegal drugs and alcohol Frequently peoples are fearful admitting they are suffering. There is a belief we can just pull up and out of this dark feeling we are experiencing. Depression is a medical condition. You cannot just will yourself to be happy and see the joy of life.

The recent suicides of celebrities Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain help to shine a light on the very present need to create greater awareness of the importance of treatment.

and ability to access information for a destigmatization of mental health disorders.

Prescription drugs are not the only cure. There are multiple forms of treatments and therapies available. One of the most 21c. Treatments is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS).

TMS is an innovative, FDA approved, covered by major insurance and Medicare, non-invasive, safe, and effective treatment for depression. The patient has a magnetic pulse targeted to the exact region of the brain that needs stimulation. Once activated the brain learns to self sustain this activation that is necessary to maintain well being.
